RVL-4209 - 1/144 Austrian Airbus A340 Wiener Philharmoniker Airliner
On 10th January 2006 Austrian Airlines again drew attention to a long-range jet by covering it all over with an impressive special design. The Austrian airline subjected a jumbo jet A340-300 to a complete transformation to promote that symbol of Austrian art and culture - the Vienna Philharmonic - throughout the world. In close collaboration between Austrian Airlines, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Austrian mint, a design was created for the aircraft that presented special features of the world-famous orchestra and its musical instruments. The Airbus A340-300 OE-LAL is mainly used on the long-haul route to Japan and also on the North American route. The decorative elements comprising a total of 230 individual pieces of foil with a total area of approx. 600 m? and a total weight of 70 kg were attached to it at Vienna Airport. The A340 has four type CFM56-5C2G engines delivering a maximum thrust of 140,000 kN each. The maximum range with full payload is about 12,800 km. The Scandinavian airline SAS has also used the A340 successfully on long-haul routes since 2001.
